If you eat food, you are a good candidate for membership in the farming network! We welcome everybody into our group without discrimination based on race, class, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation or any type of disability. Likewise we welcome and encourage members without regard to income, or level of farming experience. Our only requirement is that every member be aligned with our mission and with the spirit and practice of nondiscrimination, inclusion, respect, cooperation, and sharing.
Our current membership represents a diverse group of people from many different walks of life, and with a wide variety of experience and goals. Everyone has something valuable to offer and everyone can benefit from participation. All members are encouraged to donate time, share expertise, and contribute however they can to their chapter. Members volunteer to hold meetings, organize trainings, investigate possible marketing opportunities, orient new members, serve as mentors, act as equipment librarians and train other members in proper use of equipment.
The benefits of membership are there for all, regardless of their level of contribution to their chapter. We recognize that some members do not have extra time to offer because of other commitments, though involvement is definitely an investment in the success of the organization and many members find the rewards well worth the effort. In addition to the tangible benefits of membership, such as access to our programs, everyone who participates in any farming network activity gets plenty of encouragement and opportunity to practice communication, cooperation, and organizing and leadership skills.
Our network community is comprised of approximately 40 families and individuals who want to expand opportunities for economic development and self-sufficiency for farmers, and work toward local sustainable food systems and food security for all.
Annual membership dues are $12 for the calendar year.

Each of our three local chapters, while largely autonomous and self governing, receive oversight by our board and each chapter is represented by two members who have equal voting power in all major decisions.
In 2005 we received our designation as a Vermont Domestic Non-Profit Corporation and did our trade name registration, and we continue in our process of applying for our own 501c3 status. We expect to have our own federally approved nonprofit status in 2007.
The North Country Farming Network is a membership organization, which is open to all individuals and organizations that support our mission of promoting small scale, sustainable agriculture in northern Vermont.
